An average 3-day camp at Seoul English Village
Monday 8am. Wake up, you live inside the school grounds so there is no need to commute (especially great in winter when it is cold outside). You have your own room but share a bathroom with your neighbour. The school also pays for all the utilities except for internet, but most teachers share their internet to keep this cost down too. Sometimes on Monday you may have to travel to the student's school and bring them to SEV, but usually this is done by their own school teachers.
Monday 8:45am Meet for the morning meeting, eat some breakfast (provided by SEV) and prepare for the day.
Monday 9:30am The students arrive, for the rest of the morning we will be giving them an orientation and a tour. Each student gets given an SEV passport and an English nickname.
Monday 11:45am Lunchtime. The lunch is provided by the school and is usually a fusion of Western and Korean food. One lunchtime a week you will supervise the students whilst at lunch or dinner .
Monday 1:30pm First class of the day. In the afternoon the students will have four 45 minute classes. These will be based around situational teaching such as Hospital, Police Station, Post Office, etc. There are also fun classes like games class. The aim of our classes is to get the students to practice their speaking skills. They spend lots of time in their regular schools learning other aspects of English but this is one of the few opportunities they get to practice speaking.
Monday 5;15pm Dinnertime. If you are working the regular shift you can go home at 6pm usually, but some days you can go home at 5:15.
Monday 7pm to 8:45pm Night Activity. Three teachers a week will do the night activity shift. They start work at 11:40am and finish at 8:45pm. Night activity is usually a fun activity like doing a talent show or watching a movie.
Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday the students have 7 classes. between each class there is a 15 minute break to prepare for the next class. About 2 or 3 times a week you will get a free period where you can relax and don't have to teach. On Wednesday, the students have two classes then go home. Another three day camp will come on Wednesday afternoon.
